Business lessons from Hurricane Wilma


The lesson that we picked up from Wilma is you gotta have a plan. It has to be tailored to your individual business. And, you know, the three scenarios that’s so important is you have to be able to communicate with your people, have your employees ready, you have to be able to get access to data, and you have to be able to have phone systems.

And the time to prepare is not when you’re under that pressure, when you’ve had a storm go through and now you have nothing and you have to figure all this stuff out. What we learned from Wilma is you just have to come up with a plan, and you have to test and prepare that plan and test it and implement it when you’re not under that pressure, when you’re not dealing with a storm, when you’re not in the middle of a huge disaster.

And not only are you in a disaster, everybody else around you is dealing with it.
